Hello All Members,
Despite the strong case that the LTA put forward to Government, I’m sorry to confirm that the new restrictions being introduced tomorrow, 5th November, mean you will not be allowed to play tennis in England for the duration of the national lockdown.
Our club will now be closed from tonight with new security codes on the outer entrance gates. I therefore ask you to respect the restrictions and adhere to the Government’s decision.
I shall be emailing our local MP to forward the case, that if people are being encouraged to take part in exercise during lockdown and are allowed to meet someone else from a different household for a socially distanced walk, they should have been able to play tennis against each other on either side of a net.
The physical and mental health benefits of tennis to participate are high, whilst the LTA feel that the risk from our sport is incredibly low.
You are more than welcome to email your local MP and add your own views.
I shall keep you updated as soon as I receive any news from the LTA.
Sarah Strawbridge. Chairman
We are a friendly club with excellent facilities and plenty of opportunities for league tennis and social play whatever your age or ability. The club has four all weather floodlit carpet courts (Matchplay 2 surface, newly installed in January 2019) allowing play every day of the year up to 10pm and a comfortable modern clubhouse. We are located at Sharpham Road Playing Fields next to Cheddar reservoir with the picturesque Mendip Hills behind. The club is affiliated to the LTA and Clubmark Accredited.
