Cheddar tennis club plays league matches against other clubs in the North Somerset Tennis League, covering an area from Clevedon in the north to Taunton and Trull in the south, Street in the east and Minehead in the west. In addition to the summer league which runs from April to July, there are winter league matches and veterans league matches running from October to March each year.
In the 2018/2019, there are 7 divisions in the winter league and 2 divisions in the veterans league. Cheddar has 3 winter league teams currently playing in divisions 2, 4 and 6, so there are opportunities for players of all standards to experience some competitive league tennis if they want to.
Whilst the summer league teams consist of four men or four ladies in each team, the winter and veterans leagues are mixed, with each team having 2 men and 2 ladies. The format allows for players to each play two matches per fixture, with a mens doubles, a ladies doubles and two mixed doubles, all best of three sets.
The winter league matches are generally (but not exclusively) played on Sunday mornings. The veterans league matches are usually arranged for weekday mornings.
Both winter and veterans league matches are hugely enjoyable and the format is popular with those who enjoy friendly competitive tennis and also those who like the social aspect of playing throughout the winter.
